Pushing Forward the Future of Mortgage Servicing: Meet Pradeep Kumar, Director of Product Management

In this series, we’re focused on the humans who make up Sagent. We’re fortunate to have a team that is constantly evolving – both professionally and personally – folks from all over the world who bring a variety of experience, education, and perspectives to advance our challenging mission. We’re excited to introduce you to some of these talented people who make Sagent a vibrant, productive community.

Tell me about your family, pets, where you live, and anything else you’d like to share about your life to help people get to know you.

I live in Bengaluru with my wife and our 11‑year‑old son. Family is a big part of my life, and we enjoy spending time together, exploring new places, and trying different cuisines. I grew up in Udupi, a coastal city in India known for its beautiful beaches and temples. Growing up in that city gave me a deep appreciation for nature and culture. I don’t have any pets now, but I’ve always loved animals and hope to have one in the future.

What are your hobbies?

I love to spend my free time traveling, listening to music, reading – and playing badminton, cricket, and chess.

What are your favorite movies, music, or TV shows?

I have several favorites movies, but a few stand out: Interstellar (because I’ve always been fascinated by the sky, stars, and galaxies), The Pursuit of Happiness, and Secretariat, especially for the quote “you never know until you run.” I also enjoy Kannada films like Lucia and Ulidavaru Kandante. As for TV shows, I’m a fan of The Big Bang Theory and The Lincoln Lawyer. I like listening to Kishore Kumar, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam’s hits, and Coldplay.

Do you have a role model? If so, tell me about them.

My grandmother is my role model. She has had a profound influence on who I am today, both personally and professionally. She always inspired me through her resilience, integrity, and calm approach to life’s challenges. Watching her handle responsibilities with strength and empathy taught me the importance of perseverance, humility, and doing the right thing even in difficult situations.

What is your educational background?

I hold a bachelor’s degree in science and a postgraduate degree in Management from Great Lakes University, with a specialization in Data Science and Analytics.

Tell me more about your career journey. Highlight a particularly positive or negative experience and what you learned from it.

My career spans over 21 years, with experience across operations, IT, and product-focused roles, primarily within the financial services and mortgage servicing. This journey has given me a strong end‑to‑end perspective — from frontline operations to building and managing enterprise‑scale banking products. I began my career at Ocwen Loan Servicing, responsible for handling loans in default and gaining strong expertise in the U.S. mortgage servicing domain, while leading multiple teams to ensure compliance and operational turnaround timelines.

That curiosity led me to transition into the fintech space, where I joined Fiserv — which later became Sagent — as a Business Analyst working on the LoanServ product. Working on LoanServ and banking products allowed me to bridge my operational knowledge with technology solutions. Over time, I took on multiple roles, partnering closely with engineering, clients, and business stakeholders.

How did you get into mortgage fintech?

While I worked on the operations side of mortgage servicing early in my career, I had the opportunity to develop an application to improve the efficiency of managing bankruptcy claims. Seeing firsthand how technology could simplify complex processes, improve turnaround times, and enhance customer experiences sparked my interest in the IT side of the business.

This curiosity cultivated me entering the fintech space, allowing me to combine deep operational knowledge with technology and product development. Over time, I expanded my responsibilities across business analysis, product management, and program management, firmly establishing my path in mortgage fintech.

What does your “day to day” look like in your role at Sagent?

I lead and manage Product Management, Agile Project Management and Technical Writing teams based in India and oversee a delivery team. My day‑to‑day focus is supporting and enabling my teams to perform at their best. I work closely with cross‑functional partners including engineering, design, and peers in the U.S. to identify and review requirements, refine user stories for engineering, and drive solution discussions in collaboration with the engineering teams.

In your opinion, what is the greatest impact of building cloud-native servicing technology?

A key differentiator of cloud‑native platforms is access to real‑time data. Instead of relying on overnight batch processing, our customers can leverage up‑to‑date servicing data to make faster, more informed decisions. Real‑time insights improve operational visibility, enable proactive issue resolution, support automation, and allow servicers to deliver more personalized and timely borrower interactions.

What excites you about Sagent’s mission to lead the evolution in loan servicing by solving its most complex challenges?

I’m genuinely excited to be part of the big and monumental shift that Sagent is bringing to the industry with Dara. The mission is to face meaningful challenges head on and entirely rethink how mortgage servicing should work, which is highly motivating for me.

When you think about Sagent’s values of “Relentless, Relevant, Respectful and Reliable” which of those resonates with you most?

While all four values are important to me, “reliable” resonates the most. To be reliable means to be someone who follows through, communicates clearly, and takes ownership. It’s essential in how we support our customers, who depend on us for accurate, consistent, and timely solutions during critical moments. It’s equally important in how we partner with customers who rely on us for accurate, consistent, and timely solutions during critical moments. Building that trust, both internally and externally, is foundational to strong teamwork, customer confidence, and long‑term success.

What is your experience with Sagent’s culture? What is your favorite thing about working for Sagent?

My experience with Sagent’s culture has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve had the opportunity to work with leaders who are transparent and empowering, creating an environment where people are trusted to take ownership and make decisions confidently. Teams flourish in a collaborative, respectful, and accountability‑driven culture, making cross‑functional work both effective and rewarding.

What I enjoy most about working at Sagent is being part of this culture while contributing to meaningful transformation within the loan servicing industry. The combination of strong leadership, empowered teams, and a mission with real impact makes the work fulfilling every day.
