Dara Consumer: Closing the Experience Gap in Mortgage Servicing

This Dara Consumer spotlight first appeared here in HousingWire.

HousingWire recently produced a video explaining Dara Consumer to their audience. We think they got it pretty much right, and it was interesting to hear their perspective on the benefits the platform delivers for our industry (not to mention seeing their b-roll choices). But we wanted to take the opportunity to dig just a little deeper on a couple of their insights. Because under the surface of Dara Consumer, there’s a lot going on.

Simplicity & accessibility for servicers and homeowners alike

“Dara Consumer was built to address that [industry] gap: a unified, digital-first, self-service experience where homeowners manage key aspects of their mortgage anytime, anywhere.” (0:14-0:26)

The “gap” they’re talking about is the stark difference between homeowners’ typical experience with their servicers’ technology (ICYMI, not great), vs. their expectations based on a modern digital experience with everything from retail shopping to mortgage origination. Dara Consumer changes this by giving homeowners easy control of “key aspects” of their mortgage using any device they prefer. It goes beyond just autopay and downloadable statements; the modern interface simplifies complicated escrow balances, contains intuitive amortization and payoff calculators, and proactively offers hardship support — including personalized loss mitigation options.

For servicers, Dara Consumer brings powerful capabilities based on a real-time connection with their servicing system of record and the ability to see exactly what their customer sees. This means that homeowners can self-serve all they want, then — just when they need it the most — their servicer can step in to offer the human connection and expert advice that builds lifetime relationships.

The result? Faster problem solving, happier homeowners, and pathways to a profitable recapture strategy. Dara Consumer isn’t just bridging the gap between homeowners and servicers — it’s creating a smarter, more human approach to mortgage servicing that promotes resilience for all stakeholders and the housing economy in general.

Configurability makes Dara Consumer an easy choice

“Choosing between platforms often comes down to control and adaptability. Dara Consumer offers a configurable approach, meeting homeowners where they are while giving servicers the tools to shape the experience, automate steps, and stay aligned with the evolving regulations.” (1:38-1:54)

This quote likely refers to Dara Consumer’s adaptability for any servicer’s workflow and existing tech stack, but let’s break it down to see a little more detail.

As part of Dara’s open ecosystem, Dara Consumer was built for APIs. In fact, as our CTO Omer Farooque put it, “We eat our own dog food,” meaning that Sagent uses APIs as the native connectivity between Dara’s own components. (That also means servicers can use their own existing interface, if they have one, powered by Dara Consumer.)

But Dara Consumer’s configurability goes beyond real-time connectivity because the platform allows servicers to fine tune the granular detail of every customer interaction to “meet homeowners where they are.” Servicers can apply their own styles and imagery, so homeowners get a seamless brand experience, and for consumers who also bank with their servicer, the platform’s SSO option means the portal can exist seamlessly alongside the digital-banking experience they already know.

Dara Consumer’s configurability extends to messages, banners, and pretty much everything else the homeowner will read as they manage their mortgage. Plus, servicers can create their own document libraries to keep statements, request forms, and other documentation consistent across their organization. And speaking of “evolving regulations,” the platform provides anytime compliance auditability, support for Payment Supplement plans from FHA and USDA, and automated mortgage-assistance decisioning available for the latest investor-specific requirements from FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, USDA, VA, and even private-investor loan types.

A win for all servicing stakeholders, starting with homeowners

Dara Consumer helps servicers exceed homeowner expectations by offering advanced mortgage controls that are simplified within an elegant interface the consumer can access however they like. Thanks to open APIs, Dara Consumer’s real-time data connects to existing platforms so servicers can provide relevant customer support precisely when homeowners need it – making homeownership more sustainable. And it does all this while reducing operational costs and friction, so we call that a win!
