In this series, we’re focused on the humans who make up Sagent. We’re fortunate to have a team that is constantly evolving – both professionally and personally – folks from all over the world who bring a variety of experience, education, and perspectives to advance our challenging mission. We’re excited to introduce you to some of these talented people who make Sagent a vibrant, productive community.
Where did you grow up?
I’ve been lucky enough to live in Colorado my whole life. I’ve had the opportunity to live in the heart of downtown Denver, up north on an old farm, and now where I currently live, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, a southern suburb of Denver.
Tell me about your family, pets, and anything else you’d like to share about your life to help people get to know you.
I live with my long-term boyfriend and our dog, Curly, who both keep me on my toes. In Colorado, I am fortunate to experience a healthy mix of city living and exploring the outdoors. I also have a large soft spot for my local animal shelter.
What are your hobbies?
I am passionate about creating things. I love working with my 3D printer and laser cutter to bring new ideas to life. I’m always the one to bring a handmade gift to a celebration! When I’m not making something, you’ll usually find me with a good book. I’ll pretty much read anything recommended to me. Send your suggestions now!
What are your favorite movies, music, or TV shows?
I’m not a huge movie buff but I could spend all day binging crime TV shows like Law and Order, SVU and Criminal Minds. As for music, my playlist is as eclectic as it gets. You’ll find everything from 90s country to old-school hip-hop to the latest pop hits and everything in between.
What is your educational background?
I went to high school in Colorado and have been lucky enough to be able to continue learning through various personal and professional experiences throughout my life.
What was your first “real” job?
My first “real” job was as an Asset Manager for a small real estate owned (REO) company. I had close to zero knowledge about real estate or the financial industry but was able to quickly adapt and learn a lot of information that is still relevant in my day-to-day life now.
Can you highlight a particularly positive or negative experience and what you learned from it.
One of the highlights of my career was part of the first major project I worked on. The project was building a new application from the ground up for our Loss Mitigation team. Part of the challenge was that we weren’t just building a new application, but we were also completely changing the business model of how the group functioned and operated. My role was to help formulate the equipment and perform critical UAT testing.
The project was full of long nights, high levels of stress and a fair amount of chaos – not unusual for these types of projects. Despite the challenges, it also brought a huge learning curve that allowed me to grow more than I thought I would ever be able to, allowed me to work with some amazing people who helped make the process smoother and more enjoyable, and I learned skills I will use through the rest of my career.
How did you get into mortgage fintech?
I got into mortgage fintech when I landed an entry-level role at a mortgage servicing company. I was lucky enough to have some truly amazing leaders who saw potential in me and gave me the opportunity to take on projects focused on improving our technology. This experience allowed me to dive deeper into the tech side of the industry and helped shape my career in fintech.
What does your “day to day” look like in your role at Sagent?
My day to day at Sagent varies quite a bit which is one of the things I love about my role. Each day presents a new challenge or problem to solve, and I thrive on the variety. One minute I’ll be working with my team to ensure we have a clear vision of our next product delivery, and the next day will be collaborating with one of our clients to understand their needs. I love the dynamic nature of my role.
What is it about your job that motivates or challenges you?
I am most motivated by the opportunity to solve new challenges every day. I love working in an environment where I am able to learn and evolve constantly. I also enjoy the challenge of staying ahead in a fast-paced industry like fintech where innovation and adaptability are key.
Have you had an impactful mentoring experience, either giving or receiving?
I’ve been fortune enough to have some incredible mentors throughout my career whose support, guidance and belief in my potential have played a huge role in getting me to where I am today. I’m grateful for the opportunities to learn from them, and it’s something I try to pay forward by offering the same support and encouragement to others whenever I can.
When you think about Sagent’s values of “Relentless, Relevant, and Reliable” which of those resonates with you most?
Relentlessness is the value that resonates with me the most. By staying relentless, I am able to maintain focus on Sagent’s mission to revolutionize America’s $14 trillion servicing industry and persevere even when things get tough. That kind of mindset has not only been key in my career, but also in my personal growth.
What is your experience with Sagent’s culture?
My experience with Sagent’s culture has been incredibly positive. Everyone I work with is very collaborative and supportive which is key to creating an environment where innovation – like the incredible work we are doing at Sagent – can thrive.
What is your favorite thing about working for Sagent?
My favorite thing about working for Sagent is definitely the people. I absolutely love having the opportunity to hear different opinions and viewpoints from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
