Keeping the People in “People Operations” Relevant: Meet Trailblazer Tanicka Kirk

In this series, we’re focused on the humans who make up Sagent. We’re fortunate to have a team that is constantly evolving – both professionally and personally – folks from all over the world who bring a variety of experience, education, and perspectives to advance our challenging mission. We’re excited to introduce you to some of these talented people who make Sagent a vibrant, productive community.

Where did you grow up and what was your first “real” job?

I had the unique experience of growing up in both Germany and Texas. My first “real” job was working as a bagger at a grocery store when I was 16.

What are some of your hobbies?

I definitely like to stay busy! Some of my many hobbies include travel, exploring new cultures, working out, spending time with my family, real estate, and flipping homes. I not only work in the real estate industry, but it has also become a hobby for me as well.

What is your educational background?

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management from DeVry University. Later I went on to earn my Master’s in Training and Development from Webster University in 2017.

Do you do any volunteer work or have a soft spot for any charity in your community?

I do volunteer work in the city of Dallas with the homeless and veteran communities. I’m always seeking opportunities to make a positive impact both locally and globally.

What are your favorite movies, music, or TV shows?

I don’t watch TV too often, but when I do, I usually binge Law & Order, HGTV or something sci-fi.

Tell me about any notable accomplishments that you’re proud of.

I am very proud of being a published author. I was asked to be part of a book called “Women in Real Estate Volume 3” to talk about my experience in real estate and specifically to focus on my perspective being a woman in a male dominated field. I had to dig deep to really figure out a way to express my story, which was a challenge, but was ultimately rewarding. Once the book was published and out to the world. I felt good about taking the opportunity to tell my story and hopefully inspire other women to begin their journey in the industry.

How did you end up at Sagent?

As a U.S. Army veteran, I bring a unique perspective to workforce and talent development. After working in the mortgage industry for two years in my previous role, I was ready for something new. When looking for my next opportunity, I knew that I wanted to be part of a company that was dedicated to positively impacting others. I also knew that there was room for innovation in the mortgage industry and I was dedicated to finding the “trailblazer” in the industry. After working at Sagent for more than two years, I know that I made the right decision and that Sagent is certainly a trailblazer of innovation.

Why do you think Sagent is a trailblazer?

Since I joined the team, Sagent has launched Dara, a first-of-its-kind mortgage servicing platform that leverages real-time data to mitigate risk and deliver the best outcome for homeowners during challenging times. Dara is already transforming America’s $14 trillion mortgage servicing industry and is what really sets Sagent apart as a trailblazer.

What does your “day to day” look like in your role at Sagent?

I am lucky that in my role, no day is ever the same, and I never have a boring day. I often make the joke that I’m always in a meeting, but this is really one of my favorite parts. I am so fortunate to work closely with our Chief Technology Officer and other leaders to shape and implement people strategies for over 1,000 global employees.

As a Senior Human Resources Business Partner my day consists of advising leaders and meeting with employees on various topics. I lead initiatives on workforce planning, leadership development, and global mobility. I also head our diversity, equity and inclusion program – an initiative that I am really excited about. Sagent is dedicated to recruiting and mentoring team members who reflect this market, and I’m proud to be a part of that work.

When you think about Sagent’s values of “Relentless, Relevant, and Reliable” which of those resonates with you most?

While I work to incorporate all Sagent’s core values into all that I do, I identify the most with “relentless.” I appreciate that this value can be applied to all aspects of life, both work and personal. No matter what, you must be relentless until you get what you want or get to where you want to be. Sagent works relentlessly to innovate and push the mortgage industry into the future, and for this to happen, it is crucial for everyone on our team to also have a relentless drive.

What is your experience with Sagent’s culture?

I really cannot say enough good things about the amazing people that I work with every day. The culture that I have experienced with my team is very collaborative and supportive. We work hard and play harder. I appreciate my team and their willingness to always jump in and help. My coworkers are my favorite thing about working for Sagent. We are a lean but mighty team, and we really support each other through it all. They are literally the best!

We like to ask our Sagent Standout’s colleagues for insights into what it’s like to work with them. Anne Hurtubise shared this about Tanicka:

“Tanicka is a powerhouse! She relentlessly supports her business partners with the highest level of attention and care while simultaneously managing Global Mobility and Sagent’s Business Resource Groups. All with a smile, a dose of humor, and great attention to the smallest detail.”
