Delivers Relevant Servicing Outcomes with a Relentless Approach to Innovation — Bart Bailey, Product Management Exec

In this series, we’re focused on the humans who make up Sagent. We’re fortunate to have a team that is constantly evolving – both professionally and personally – folks from all over the world who bring a variety of experience, education, and perspectives to advance our challenging mission. We’re excited to introduce you to some of these talented people who make Sagent a vibrant, productive community.

Tell me about your family, pets, where you live, and anything else you’d like to share about your life to help people get to know you.

For the past 20 years my family and I have lived in in Flower Mound, Texas, but I grew up in San Jose, California. I am fortunate enough to have lived in various places across the country including Utah, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. My wife and I have five beautiful children and one incredible grandbaby.

What are your hobbies? Do you do any volunteer work or have a soft spot for any charity in your community?

In my free time I make an effort to get outside and connect with nature. My love for nature started at a young age, which made working in the outdoors come natural and easy, helping me achieve the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. My hobbies include woodworking, gardening and trout fishing. I am also very active in church and regularly participate in community projects with them.

What are your favorite movies, music, or TV shows?

My favorite television series is The Curse of Oak Island. I also enjoy watching College Football—Go Utes!

Do you have a role model? If so, tell me about them.

My dad is my biggest role model.  He’s creative, a driven problem solver, and leader who has always supported me in everything I do. When I was growing up, he rarely hired someone to do odd jobs around the house. I learned so many useful life skills while observing and helping him, including plumbing, electrical, woodworking, and auto repairs.

What is your educational background and what was your first “real” job?

I attended the University of Utah where I received my BS in Business Management. My first ‘real’ job was as a student Card Credit Analyst for American Express.

How did you get into mortgage fintech?

Throughout my career I have always had a passion for technology. Even when I was first starting out in the mortgage industry and was running default servicing operations and I had technology teams reporting to me, I was dedicated to building innovative solutions. When I had the opportunity to transition into the vendor and fintech side of the business, I jumped at the chance. For my entire career, I have been focused on leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency, and I felt like I could have a greater impact on America’s $14 million service industry from the fintech side. When I joined Sagent a little over a year ago I was so excited (and still am!) to build out Dara Default that will change they way we service defaulted mortgages.

What does your “day to day” look like in your role at Sagent?

My day to day consists of meetings, meetings and more meetings. As a Product Leader, I am responsible for defining the product vision & roadmap, overseeing the build activities, driving go-to-market strategies and supporting our clients. This includes validating our strategy with internal team members, our clients and the industry. I work every day to ensure that my team is executing to their highest standard and pushing Dara Loss Mitigation forward. From leveraging AI and incorporating real-time data, Dara is the platform of the future – one that has been a long time coming. I am so proud to be part of Sagent’s mission to revolutionize the mortgage servicing industry and deliver positive homeowner outcomes.

What about your job motivates or challenges you?

I love the opportunity to build and create technologically advanced solutions for a wide variety of problems in the servicing industry. In my role, I am privileged to lead an amazing and talented team focused on disrupting the way the industry thinks about default servicing.

Have you had an impactful mentoring experience, either giving or receiving?

Over my career I have been fortunate to have leaders who were not only excellent role models, but also took the time to mentor me and facilitate new opportunities. I try to take this same approach with the team I oversee now. I find it very rewarding to help team members grow in their careers and see their development result in more positive impacts—not only for Sagent—but for the entire servicing industry.

In your opinion, what is the greatest impact of building cloud-native servicing technology?

The simplification of the servicing ecosystem is, in my opinion, the greatest impact of cloud-native servicing technology. Most servicers have four to five main tech platforms and hundreds of small applications to support their processes. Dara simplifies this, reducing regulatory risk and improving operational efficiency. Dara is the industry’s first end-to-end mortgage servicing platform which prioritizes the customer experience. I also think our modern application and incorporation of cloud-native servicing will allow us to adapt more quickly to process and regulatory changes, which are becoming increasingly common throughout the industry.

What excites you about Sagent’s mission to lead the evolution in loan servicing by solving its most complex challenges?

I love being part of this amazing journey. It is not often you get to play a part in this type of industry change. I came to Sagent with the goal of filling the tech and innovation gap in the servicing industry and moving away from the mainframe technologies that had dominated the industry for over fifty years. At Sagent we are leading this change, and we are just getting started.

When you think about Sagent’s values of “Relentless, Relevant, and Reliable” which of those resonates with you most?

While I resonate with all of Sagent’s core values, the one I resonate the most with is relentless, because of my commitment to delivering innovative products to the industry. I am always pushing my team to think outside the box and come up with innovative solutions to old problems.

What is your favorite thing about working for Sagent?

The people are definitely my favorite aspect of working for Sagent. Working at Sagent feels like being part of a family. Everyone is exceptionally supportive of each others’ personal and professional journey. I am so grateful to get to work alongside such incredible team members as we push forward on our mission to revolutionize America’s $14 trillion servicing ecosystem! —
